Summary:
In December 2011, the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice (the Division) opened an investigation into the Meridian Police Department as part of a broader investigation into the administration of juvenile justice in Meridian, Mississippi. In August 2012, the Division identified a pattern or practice of arresting children in schools without probable cause. In September 2015, the parties entered into a court-enforced consent decree, which remains in effect.
